FERAL CAT DELEGATION PURPOSE:

1.         To ask Council to recognize the plight of feral cats in our community and to understand the need for bringing
this subject to the attention of City residents so that our community may deal with this subject in a compassionate and intelligent way in order to humanely reduce the overpopulation.

By proclaiming October 16th as “FERAL CAT DAY” in the City of North Vancouver, Council will address the proper care and handling of feral cats by helping get the message to those in our community who are trying to cope with expanding numbers of cats and kittens in their residential and business neighbourhoods.

2.         To ask Council for permission to set up an information table in front of the City Library on October 16th,  between
the hours of 11:00am and 1:00pm in order to distribute information on feral cats to the public.

By providing truthful and useful information to our residents, we will be dispelling myths about feral cats.  The public needs to know that a well researched and working humane solution called Trap/Neuter/Return ("TNR") exists as an alternative to the decades old entrenched animal control response of killing feral cats, a method that has been proven ineffective.

From our documentation compiled over the years, we are able to provide the evidence that Pacific Animal Foundation’s TNR program has substantially lowered the number of feral cats in our community and prevented thousands more from being born on the streets.
